Happy Holidays!!!

Here is my little guy a little while ago, setting up treats for Santa and Rudolph. He is sleeping as I type this. It really does make the Holiday Season SO much more fun when there is a child in your life to share it with. You can re-live and re-love some old movies that you may have forgotten about. You can decorate and then decorate some more, because nothing is too much when you're 5. But the best thing is the innocent and trusting excitement of anticipating Santa. There is something so beautiful about that, and nothing can compare to it.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS to all of you!

MY BROTHER

‎9 yrs ago today, my Brother was an EMT in NYC, who wasn't supposed to work that day. When he awoke and saw the news, he immediately left for the site to help. He ultimately saw the 2nd tower go down, with many of his friends and co-workers still inside.

What is amazing to me is that He didn't even THINK--he just DID. That is a true hero. To My Brother, and all the other heroes who selflessly DID, I thank heaven for you.

I hope this day can always remind us of the wonderful outreach and brotherly love that followed this horrible tragedy. I think we need that now, more than ever.

Bless you all...

Trains and Romance

What is it about the romance of trains and train stations? Train stations are the perfect setting for the cliche "goodbye" scene, or the "until we meet again" scene from a classic black and white film. It's perfect. One leading character on the train, as the other watches the train slowly pull out of the station. How can it not touch us?

But there is so much more to it. There's the scenery, the destination, and of course the journey.

I have a dream that one day I will be able to go take a trip on the Orient Express. They have many routes through Europe, with the same old, beautiful, and romantic cars that made the original trips from Paris to Istanbul. The beautiful cabins, the woodwork in the bar and dining cars, and the surrounding strangers all create the atmosphere. Oh, the Luxury! Cramped luxury, but luxury nonetheless.

I see myself with a cappuccino and a plate of scrambled eggs, sitting next to a window, and just feeling the atmosphere, and watching the scenery fly by me. I can't think of a more exciting way to travel!

One of my very favorite movies is Noel Coward's Brief Encounter. Much of the drama happens in the train station, and it is what brings the two leading characters together, which lead them to carry on their forbidden love affair. Alone on the train is also the perfect place for the female lead to voice her "inner monologue" about what is going on in her life, and what she thinks about it. I do not think the movie would be one half as good without one of its most important characters: the Train Station.

So, I hopefully leave you with something to spark an idea, which begins with a train, a journey, and a destination. Where will it take you... ?

ST. PADDY!

I have only recently found out that I am IRISH!

I have always gotten a kick out of St Patrick's Day. When I lived in Chicago, it was just amazing to see the River dyed green each year. And back in the day at the campus eatery (BITS and BYTES) at Hofstra University and their clever green bagels (which were a bit difficult to eat at first, given the obvious mold association). Let's not forget green beer---BRILLIANT! And well, green really IS my color:) But I think the thing that always made me smile about the day, aside from all the goofy drunken fools, was the happiness it initiated. Maybe I just happened to be around the fun people each year on this day, but there was a camaraderie there--and EVERYONE was Irish on St. Patrick's Day! So, now that I find I AM Irish, I wish to you all, the LUCK O' The Irish (I have a lot to spare from all the years I didn't use it) and HAPPINESS this St Patrick's Day!

P.S. Put "I'm Irish" in the comments during checkout for either of my shops (CaraScarlet or madebycarashop) and receive free shipping with your order until the end of March!

New Pretties

Hello Everyone! I hope anyone who reaches this blog, had a wonderful HOLIDAY SEASON! I listed a few new items, and wanted to share them here. I used vintage buttons for the earrings, and the flowery necklace is sort of inspired from my new blog design. The crucifix and beads from the religious necklace is from the most GORGEOUS vintage rosary.

Remember, I still have my 15% off sale in madebycarashop and

FREE SHIPPING in CaraScarlett

Thank you for stopping by...:)
